I love Wanda Sykes. She's a wonderfully talented, acerbically funny woman who also happens to be an out lesbian. She stars in a PSA that I hope will be getting a lot of air time. In it, a bunch of (ahem, clueless) teenage boys are talking about some goofy item in the diner, and one of the kids says "That's so gay!" This declaration is used to denigrate the item or person in question, implying that gay = stupid, or just plain wrong on some level. Wanda, bless her heart, confronts these young men in a way that helps them understand the "wrongness" of their comment.

See the video on YouTube, HERE

So, anybody seen it on TV? Whether you have or haven't, is it much ado about nothing? Let's hear it!

Thank you for sharing that, Jo!!! I haven't seen it on tv but I hope it shows up. I did post it to my facebook in hopes that people continue to share it. GLSEN does a lot of posters and school related pulicity similar to this PSA but its great to see it immerging into the mainstream as well. Thanks again. :)

Thanks, Lana - and thanks especially for posting on Facebook. Let's hope this thing goes viral to some degree, so that it gets seen by as many people as possible - especially the young men and women coming up.

Blessings!

Happy to help. I just ~love~ Wanda Sykes - she is such a great pick for this PSA, as her no-nonsense comedy style is a match for the message. Confronting ignorance can get exhausting; humor is a wonderful "secret weapon" in our arsenal.

I'm always telling kids that the phrase "that's so gay" is insulting. I don't know how much it helps, though. I'm still glad to see this PSA.

Wanda Sykes is proof "we are everywhere..." ;) She's got a new special coming out on HBO, entitled something along the lines of "I'ma Do What I'ma Do..." She is so funny, and often in a way that lets people know how much of their own ignorance is showing. Regardless of her orientation, I'd love her comedy. Having her as part of the LGBT family? It just makes it that much sweeter.

You're right about the others like Hillary Duff who make these kind of PSAs. Whatever and whomever it takes to get the message across, that's what I endorse. Peace! Jo
