I am also in FL and am embarrassed that Amendment 2 passed. I will be sending postcards to Obama (I am encouraged by his statements on this subject) and I will spread the word!!!

It's also be nice to have equality for trans individuals just to exist in addition to same-sex marriage. Many transpeople are being killed, fired, refused medical treatment, etc. because of our gender orientation and status.

sad isn't it? that on a country that on one hand professed to want change, social reform and unity--on the other hand voted to legalize discrimination. This whole concept of defining marriage as it applys to the law can be attested to the defense of marriage act signed into law back in 1996. It violated aspects of the 14th amendment, namely the equal protection clause and due process. I believe it has already been noted in an earlier forum post that the Obama /Biden administration favor it being replealed. It should be an interesting legal battle in California in regards to propsition 8--I have my fingers crossed, The case will have a major effect nationwide. I am unsure if you or anyoone else who may be join this group utilize twitter, but I would recommend--wherever you are from ( I am from Florida..they passed a ban here as well) that you look at daywithoutagay.com, Even if it is merely spreading the word, we really need to work together to ensure equal rights for all people--
